Blood Centers of America has planted over 160000 trees in partnership with Forestmatic, driving 27 blood centers across the United States to gift a tree for each and every donation made during October 2022.
The United States of America is in urgent need of regular and frequent blood donations across the country. Blood Centers of America is taking action by developing a campaign involving 27 not-for-profit blood centers, who will start offering volunteer blood donors a chance to plant a tree. The program will kick off in October, visit individual participating blood center websites to learn more about the start dates for each center.

All trees for this campaign are planted in Uganda through Forestmatic in partnership with Kijani Forestry. The Forestmatic x Kijani Partnership has been operating for two years, planting and tracking trees across the country. Throughout our journey, generating opportunity and working with local communities has been at the essence of what we do.
High-output tree nurseries that provide diverse seedlings, agroforestry training and employment opportunities have been established. Through our partnership we have successfully digitalized over 100 farmers and their trees planted with us.
In a single growth cycle of five years, thanks to improved land management and soil sequestration, we estimate each tree to sequester 63,3 Kg of CO2e.

Planting trees in Ugunda makes a difference. Educating and supporting local communities, as well as planting trees in a historic deforestation hotspot. Press play on the map to witness the tree coverage loss in Uganda over the past decade.
Beyond the environmental impact of planting 160000 trees, this campaign has also generated significant social and economic impact. As a whole, this campaign has contributed to a total of six Sustainable Development Goals.
More than 300 farming families, about 1500 people have been involved in the planting of our 160000 trees.
We provide an equal opportunity throughout our operations. Over 60% of people involved are female farmers.
We have 28 local youth from Gen Z working closely with us as tree trackers and nursery operators.
All cooperating farmers are educated regarding planting, forestry and coppicing techniques.
Working together with local communities effectively generates a barrier towards future deforestation.
Driving global awareness to generate local impact which will combat climate change on a global scale.

Blood Centers of America (BCA) represents independent community blood centers and is the largest blood supply network in the U.S. Together, our members collect and distribute over 50% of the nation’s blood supply. Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood or blood products. Blood is used to help cancer patients, accident and burn victims, transplant recipients and individuals suffering from rare and chronic conditions. Regular blood donations are an essential part of maintaining a sustainable blood supply and keeping a community healthy.
